Admissions to BDS Training

At BDS Training, we work closely with schools, local authorities, and other referring agencies to ensure a smooth and supportive admissions process for all learners. Our goal is to provide each student with the best possible experience from their very first interaction with us.

Referral Process & Responsibilities

During the referral and application process, schools or referring providers are responsible for:

  • Identifying the most appropriate course(s) for each learner
  • Offering impartial and accurate information, advice, and guidance
  • Discussing options and agreeing course choices with learners and their parents/carers
  • Organising visits to BDS Training for learners, parents, and key staff (where appropriate)
  • Completing all necessary application forms and supporting information
  • Submitting referrals within the agreed timescales
  • Arranging preview visits or taster days for prospective learners
  • Supporting learners through induction
  • Monitoring ongoing learner progress
  • Visiting learners during term time at the BDS Training site

Induction & Learner Expectations

All learners receive a full induction at the start of their course, including access to a Student Handbook which outlines expectations around behaviour, attendance, and conduct both on and around the training site.

Our positive behaviour policy includes a daily Reward System to encourage engagement and responsibility, alongside a clear system of sanctions where required.

Attendance & Progress Monitoring

  • Daily Reporting: BDS Training will report each learner’s attendance to the school by 10:00am on the day of attendance.
  • Termly Reports: Schools will receive written progress reports each half term or term, including attendance data and course updates.
  • Parent/Guardian Visits: Parents and guardians are welcome to arrange visits to BDS Training to check on their child’s progress- by appointment.

Late Admissions

We understand that circumstances may change throughout the year. Wherever possible, we accept learners on a rolling admissions basis, meaning places may be allocated during the academic year depending on availability.

Exclusions & Course Completion

In the rare event that a learner is excluded from the programme:

  • All completed coursework will be reviewed
  • Where possible, achieved units will be submitted for accreditation through the awarding body (City & Guilds)

Results & Certification

End-of-course results and certificates are usually available by the end of July each academic year, or earlier if possible.

Transport Arrangements

Transport to and from BDS Training is the responsibility of the referring school or agency.

  • Costs for travel must be met by the referring party
  • Any exceptional transport needs should be discussed before the learner begins provision
